وُلدتُ في بيروت سنة ١٩٨٧. كنتُ في الثانية عشر حين توقّفتُ في الصلاة لأوّل مرّة. لم يكن لديّ ما أقولُه لإلهٍ لم أَلتقِ به. أمّي قالت إنّ هذا اعتراض. أبي قال إنّه عناد. أنا لم أعرف ما هو، لكنّني عرفتُ أنّه صادق.

I was born in Beirut in 1987. I was twelve the first time I stopped during prayer. I had nothing to say to a God I had not met. My mother said this was protest. My father said it was stubbornness. I did not know what it was, but I knew it was honest.

بدأتُ بهندسة البرمجيات، ثم انجذبتُ إلى الفلسفة، وتوغلتُ بعدها في فيزياء الجسيمات عند حدودها. لم أكن أسعى وراء الأجوبة، بل كنت أبحث عن طريقة صادقة لصياغة السؤال نفسه.

I began with software engineering, drifted into philosophy, and wandered further into particle physics at its borders. I was never chasing answers—I was searching for a truthful way to frame the question itself.

«لم أرد كتابًا يُقنع، بل أردتُ كتابًا يُؤنس.»“I did not want a book that convinces. I wanted a book that keeps company.”

هذا الكتاب كتبته لمن يطلبون الحقيقة كما طلبتُها يومًا، حتى لا يتيهوا طويلًا في الحيرة التي لبثتُ فيها. لم أسعَ إلى أن أنقل إليهم قناعاتي، بل إلى أن أهبهم طريقتي في طرح السؤال.

This book was written for those who pursue truth as I once did, in the hope that they might not remain suspended in the same long uncertainty. I did not aim to inherit them my convictions, but to share with them the discipline of questioning.

استغرق سبع سنوات. أنا لستُ كاتباً سريعاً، وهذا ليس كتاباً سريعاً. إن وصلتَ إلى نهايته، فأنتَ صديقي.

It took seven years. I am not a fast writer, and this is not a fast book. If you reach its end, you are my friend.
