من كتب هذا، ولماذاWho wrote this, and why

أنا مهندسٌ برمجيات لبنانيّ. هذا ليس كتاباً دينياً، ولا كتاب «أجوبة». هو الجوابُ الطويل لسؤالٍ سألتُه وأنا في السابعة، ولم أجد له جواباً مُقنعاً حتى الأربعين.

I am a Lebanese Software Engineer. This is not a religious book, nor a book of answers. It is the long reply to a question I first asked at seven years old, and to which I found no convincing answer until I was forty.

كتبتُه ببطء، بصوتٍ منخفض، لشخصٍ واحد في كلّ مرّة. إن وصلتَ إلى هنا، فأنت ذلك الشخص.

I wrote it slowly, in a low voice, for one person at a time. If you have arrived here, you are that person.

يبدأ الكتاب على السطح: في مصلّى، طفلٌ يقف ساكناً. ثم ينزل، فصلاً بعد فصل، عبر الفيزياء والفلسفة والذاكرة، حتى يصل إلى نقطةٍ واحدة.

The book begins at the surface: in a praying room, a child standing still. Then it descends, chapter by chapter, through physics and philosophy and memory, until it arrives at a single point.
